Saving time and rejections

Post by SpikeWyatt »

Having had just about every article rejected on first submission - though always for tiny things that make me want to kick myself - I wondered if there's a particular set of settings one can use in Word's built-in grammar checker to save hassle.

Obviously I don't expect the software to catch every mistake (especially given its record of underlining grammatically correct sentences) but if it could catch things like comma placement that CC likes as opposed to what I consider correct (oh, the joys of British vs. American English), it'd be nice and it'd save me having to facepalm myself so frequently.

And yes, I know that the comma example is a bad choice since CC accepts either the correct or the American usage ( ) - it was simply the first example that sprang to mind.

Thanks in advance for suggestions.

I use http://www.spellchecker.net/spellcheck/ to help me with my grammar. The site checks spelling, grammar and has a thesaurus. It's really helped me get rid of a lot of those stupid little typos that I can't ever find.

Hi, Tianna.

Thanks for sharing that, and welcome aboard.

You may want to check your computer for malware, though. There are reviews of that spellchecker website that claim it harbours a virus, even while the software itself also does what it says it does. I admit that I don't know whether the reviews are true. I'd never even heard of the software until today.
